The Second Language Teaching & Curriculum Center (SLTCC) was established in 1988 with the broad mission of improving language instruction and facilitating cooperative efforts among departments in the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. The principal functions of the SLTCC are:

• to facilitate ongoing faculty development and teacher education;
• to provide curriculum and materials development services and expertise to departments;
• to support faculty research and development projects, especially in obtaining grants and contracts;
• to conduct outreach activities to support the language-teaching community beyond the UH Manoa campus;
• to act as a liaison within the College to coordinate and facilitate cooperative efforts among the departments.

Since 1990 the SLTCC has also been home of the UH National Foreign Language Resource Center, one of the US Department of Education's national Language Resource Centers (LRC).

In 2002 the SLTCC became a unit within the Language Learning Center at UH Manoa.
